Neighborhoods
One of Eastern North Carolina's Best-Kept Secrets
Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo are known locally as the tri-villages. The towns run together without a definitive boarder as if they were one village. Together they are a charming community with many beautiful vacation homes, with superb soundside access for kiteboarding and windsurfing, and in close proximity to the National Wildlife Refuge for those who love to bird-watch.
Rodanthe Pier, famous for its cameo in the movie "Nights in Rodanthe" is a great place for fishermen to gather to see who will leave with the biggest catch. Just up the road is the Chimicomico Life Saving Station, the former home of one of the most decorated lifesaving crews and Coast Guard crews on the east coast. Lastly, for all of those adventure sport enthusiast, the "S-Curves" at the entrance to the Village of Rodanthe and Mirlo Beach is one of the most well-renowned surf breaks on the Outer Banks, so wax up your board and go catch a wave!
Spotlights of Rodanthe
Outdoor Recreation
Not only is Rodanthe a beach haven, it's known for having a gorgeous array of natural areas and wildlife. The Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge is famous for being home to 400 species of birds and other animals. It offers birding, kayaking, and wildlife education. If you'd rather spend the day fishing, all you have to do is head over to the Rodanthe Fishing Pier. Prefer to go jet-skiing, kiteboarding, or windsurfing? The Pamlico Sound is an amazing spot for water sports.
Small-Town Amenities
As a small village community, Rodanthe has plenty of hometown charm and fun things to do around the area. Some local favorites include sunbathing on the beach, surfing and swimming in the refreshing ocean waters, visiting the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Historic Site (which would be the basis of the United States Coast Guard!), and enjoying leisurely bike rides across the community.
Outstanding Events
As part of the greater Hatteras Island community, Rodanthe offers a variety of fun activities and events throughout the year. Some of our favorites include the Island Art Show, Kiteboarding Demo Days, and Light Up the Night at the end of July.
